Actor Adrian Holmes is officially saying farewell to his Star Trek: Strange New Worlds character, Admiral Robert April.
In a December 28 Instagram post, Holmes shared that the fifth and final season of Star Trek: SNW, which premiered in 2022, has wrapped filming. The actor included several behind-the-scenes photos of himself in full Admiral April uniform, surrounded by cast and crew members on set.
“Final log as Admiral April,” Holmes wrote in the caption. “As we close out 2025, we also wrap up a show that allowed me to live among the stars. To step into the boots of Admiral Robert April has been a true privilege and a dream come true. What an honor to help bring this legend to life and to serve alongside such an extraordinary cast and crew.”
He also took a moment to acknowledge co-star Anson Mount, who plays Captain Christopher Pike, as well as co-creator Akiva Goldsman.
“Anson Mount, it was a pleasure and an honor to be your Admiral and to follow your lead, my friend,” Holmes continued. “Akiva Goldsman, you’re a genius — thank you. Thank you to everyone who made this voyage possible and unforgettable. Five seasons of heart, imagination, and family. Forever grateful for this journey. Until we meet again among the stars. Live long and prosper.”
Mount responded in the comments, writing, “The feelings are mutual, my friend.”
Anson Mount Defended Adrian Holmes
Mount has previously spoken out in defense of Holmes following criticism over his casting as Admiral April. In a July 2025 appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside You podcast, Mount addressed the backlash Holmes received for portraying a character who was originally depicted as white in Star Trek: The Animated Series, which aired from 1973 to 1974.
“It pissed me off. It really pissed me off,” Mount said during the interview. “I was disappointed in a few people’s lack of depth. Is that really as far as character goes for you?”
Mount revealed that he personally reached out to Holmes at the time to offer support. “I told him there were never conversations like that on our set, and there never will be,” he said. “We think he’s doing an incredible job — and he did.”
He also commented on the broader cultural climate surrounding casting decisions, adding that the so-called culture wars have intensified to the point where casting a Black actor often draws unfair criticism. “It’s gotten to the point where if you cast a Black actor in anything, somebody’s going to scream ‘woke,’” Mount said.
While Holmes’ journey as Admiral April has come to an end, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will continue. The show’s fourth season is set to begin airing in 2026, with fans eager to see where the series goes next.
